中国海洋石油总公司（以下简称中国海油）是中国第三大国家石油公司，负责在中国海域对外合作开采海洋石油及天然气资源，是中国最大的海上油气生产商。公司成立于1982年，注册资本500亿元人民币，总部位于北京，现有员工3.75万人。

Introduction to China National Offshore Oil Corporation

   Incorporated in 1982, China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) is the third largest state-owned oil company and the dominant offshore oil and gas producer in China. It is exclusively authorized to assume the overall responsibilities for the exploitation of oil and gas resources offshore China in cooperation with foreign partners. Headquartered in Beijing, CNOOC has 37,500 employees with a registered capital of CNY 50 billion.

   With fast growth in the past twenty years, CNOOC has developed into an integrated energy company with a competitive core business and synergetic business portfolio along the value chain. It has established six business sectors ranging from oil and gas exploration and development, technical services, chemical and fertilizer production, natural gas and power generation, logistic services and new energy to financial services.

    In recent years, through the implementation of reform and reshuffle, asset management, overseas acquisition, integration of upstream and downstream businesses, CNOOC has strengthened its comprehensive competitiveness and built itself into an oil company with high efficiency and international exposure.

   In 2005, CNOOC realized sales of CNY 88.9 billion and a profit of CNY 38.8, an increase of 25.4% and 60.1% respectively. As of the end of 2005, CNOOC registered total assets of CNY 191.4 billion and net assets of 105.5 billion, increasing by 24.9% and 27.0% respectively from the previous year.

   CNOOC witnessed a remarkable elevation of its domestic and international recognition and influence in 2005. Its profit and total assets rank the 4th an 11th respectively among all the enterprises directly supervised by the Central Government. At the beginning of 2005, Moody’s granted the company a credit rating of A2 and Standard & Poor’s upgraded its rating to A- at the end of the year, which is the highest rating for any Chinese company.

   The upstream business carried on the rising momentum and pumped out 39 million ton oil equivalent in 2005 with 5.36 million ton coming from overseas operation. As of the end of 2005, its net proved reserves reached 2.36 billion barrels of oil equivalent (BOE). CNOOC has expanded its business area from offshore China to Australia, Southeast Asia, Africa and the Caspian. It is the largest offshore oil and gas producer in Indonesia.

   Besides upstream business, CNOOC has been carrying out structural reshuffle and industry upgrading and optimizing industry chain and value chain. With the healthy expansion of mid- and downstream businesses, CNOOC has basically formed the framework of an integrated energy company. Guangdong LNG Project, the first of its genre in China was put into production in May 2006. LNG projects in Fujian, Zhejiang and Shanghai are under construction. CNOOC has secured its leading position in LNG field in China, and continued to make contributions to the economic development and environmental protection in Southeastern China. CNOOC-Shell Petrochemicals Project and Huizhou Refinery Project registered the highest standard of technology and management among their peers in the world for technical advancement, scale economy and strict cost control. By adopting the strategy of differentiation, downstream products as urea, heavy traffic bitumen and fuel oil have taken more market share and strengthened competitiveness.

  The three holding companies under the flagship of CNOOC, i.e. CNOOC Ltd., China Oilfield Services Ltd. and CNOOC Engineering Ltd. have won wide recognition in domestic and international capital market for its transparent corporate governance, strong profitability and great potential for growth. The share price of CNOOC Ltd. has surged by 340% cumulatively over its IPO price. CNOOC Ltd. has been awarded as the Best Managed Company by such famous magazines as Asia Money and Finance Asia.
